Have you ever taken a look at the ingredients on the back of your household cleaning products? Most store bought cleaning products contain nasty chemicals that can be harmful to your health and the environment. Many people believe that these chemicals are necessary for a clean home, however, there are many natural ingredients that can be used to clean the home. There are essential oils that have antibacterial and antiseptic properties, making them the perfect ingredient for a clean home. You can also use everyday household items, such as bicarbonate soda and white vinegar - affordable and effective! It’s easy to keep your home vibrant, fresh and clean without all the nasties in mainstream cleaning products and we've created some DIY recipes that you can make yourself at home.

Antibacterial essential oils such as Eucalyptus and Tea Tree essential oils are excellent for use in the kitchen. Simply add a few drops of oil to a damp wash cloth and wipe down benches before and after use. If there are tough stains that won’t budge, try sprinkling a small amount of sodium bicarbonate onto the stain and then rub with white vinegar. If the kitchen sink is lacking a bit of shine, try mixing sodium bicarbonate with water and a few drops of either Lemon or Sweet Orange essential oil. Apply the mixture to the sink and use a scourer to polish the bowl before rinsing with water.

To deodorise the carpet, try sprinkling sodium bicarbonate mixed with Lavender or Geranium essential oil. Allow the powder to draw out any odours from the carpet for an hour before giving the carpet a thorough vacuum. For tiled areas, try mixing white vinegar with hot water and Lime essential oil to cut through dirt and grime.
