History

With Tea Tree being native to the region, it was reputedly used by the indigenous inhabitants as healing plants for a number of skin conditions for many years prior. Many studies have shown Tea Tree oil used in traditional herbal medicine as a plausible treatment for “small superficial wounds, insect bites and small boils” as well as acne, nail fungus or athlete’s foot. It is said that the Tea Tree oil commercial industry originated in the 1920’s with the antiseptic properties becoming a shining benefit.

Harvesting

Sitting on hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean with remnant rainforest and plateau fields of rich red volcanic soil, the farm is a beautiful mix of coastal floodplain, paperbark forest and fields with their rich, dark brown loamy peat soils. The farm is alive with everything from lady beetles, spiders, hundreds of species of birds, water dragons, lizards, wallabies, and snakes. They aim to achieve balance between wildlife nature reserves and plantations, which in turns then delivers nutrient rich products from the farm. The farm is owned and operated by 2 families – doing much of the work themselves and employing locals for the balance of farm work and specialist tasks.
