We have discussed the Best Essential Oils for Winter and how they can be used to support you through the cooler season. Whether it’s to uplift your mood, boost your family's spirits or looking to improve your immunity to fight the cold, whatever your need, we have a recipe and answer for you!

So let’s quickly cover the basics and the various ways that essential oils can be used:

What are essential oils and how do they work?

Essential oils are a concentrated form of healing compounds found in plants, produced during the extraction process. They work by being absorbed into the body through the skin and nose. When the essential oils are absorbed through the skin, they enter the bloodstream, carrying the healing molecules throughout the body. When inhaling an essential oil, the aromatic molecules travel through two routes: down into the lungs and up into the limbic system in the brain. In the lungs, essential oils pass into the bloodstream where they are carried throughout the entire body.

Did you know?

The limbic system is a primitive part of the brain that is associated with memory and emotional response. This is why certain aromas can produce powerful memories and can also help enhance our emotional state!

How can you use essential oils?

Diffuse: If you love diffusing your essential oils, you can mix a variety of the below mentioned to enjoy beneficial results. Create your perfect diffuser blend recipe to help you with any respiratory complaints and note it down in your essential oil journal so you can use it in the future!

DIY: Create your very own DIY Disinfectant Spray or skincare product to support you through Winter.

Steam inhalation: There are a number of ways you can do this, adding a few drops into the corner of your shower, steam room, or to a bowl of steaming hot water and placing your face close to the bowl and covering your head with a towel to capture the steam.

Massage: A beautiful way to incorporate essential oils into your life. Once the oil has been diluted with a carrier oil of your choice, you are then able to safely apply the oils to your skin giving you an instant desired response.

Bath: Why not add essential oils and a luxurious and relaxing bath? Dilute your essential oils in a carrier such as carrier oil, full-fat milk, coconut milk or honey before adding them to the water.
